Most of it is however wetlands with only 55 hectares in the north-eastern part of the island inhabitable for people. The island has three villages: Piiri, Tooni and Saare village. Tooni village is the centre of the local municipality. Most of the island\u2019s inhabitants are Old Believers who have tried to maintain their unique culture and customs. Their main livelihood comes from fishing and onion farming.
